Food Waste Reduction Fund, deadline 30 March 2018

5 February 2018

WRAP is accepting expressions of interest for a new Food Waste Reduction Fund. A total of £500,000 is available to allocate in grants of £20,000 to £75,000. Funding is provided by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The fund aims to help avoid surplus food produced by food businesses from becoming waste by enabling not-for-profit organisations across England to redistribute more of this food to people in need.

To be eligible, not-for-profit organisations need to demonstrate that they plan to work in partnership with food businesses such as retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, food service and logistics companies. Funding is available for new projects that can be piloted and evaluated and, if successful, can then be replicated and implemented more widely.

"Expressions of interest should propose a method of increasing quantities of surplus food redistributed that would otherwise not happen without this funding, for example by involving businesses who are new to redistribution, accessing more food from businesses who already redistribute some surpluses, making increased use of food logistics companies, or tackling a specific barrier."

The deadline for expressions of interest is 30 March 2018. This is the first stage of the application process.
