What are they?

Who can apply?

Voluntary, community and faith sector organisations, and sometimes local authorities.

What do they fund?

A variety of 'good causes' that lie within the Government's current priorities. The Government and its agencies increasingly contract for services with the Voluntary Sector.

How do you apply?

Usually through completing an Application Form. Sometimes a business plan is needed. To find out about these funding opportunities, it can help to get involved in appropriate networks.
The exact nature of statutory funding pots depends on the size of grant available.

Change Up

ChangeUp is about strengthening the support and assistance available to voluntary and community organisations.
The ChangeUp framework was developed in partnership with the sector and focuses on improving capacity building and infrastructure within the voluntary and community sector (VCS).
From April 2006 ChangeUp is managed by Capacitybuilders, an agency at arms length to government, led by a board of sector experts.
Hubs of expertise were established nationally, linked to six key voluntary and community sector infrastructure issues:

• Finance;
• Governance;
• ICT;
• Performance;
• Volunteering;
• Workforce.

Skills Funding Agency

The Skills Funding Agency (SFA) is one of two successor organisations that will emerge from the closure of the Learning and Skills Council (England's largest Non-departmental public body or quango).

The Skills Funding Agency, established in law by the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 will work alongside the Young People's Learning Agency (YPLA) and Regional Development Agencies (RDAs). The YPLA will be created as a nondepartmental public body, with a non-executive Board, sponsored by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.The Skills Funding Agency will be an agency of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The Learning and Skills Council hands over its responsibilities from 1 April 2010.

Futurebuilders

Futurebuilders England is the government backed 125 million investment fund to help the voluntary and community sector deliver better public services. The fund provides a combination of grants and loans for organisations that deliver public services and earn revenue by forming contracts with public sector agencies.

Connexions

Connexions is the government's support service for all young people aged 13 to 19 in England.
Connexions brings together all the services and support young people need during their teenage years offering differentiated and integrated support to young people through Personal Advisers (PAs). For some young people this may be just for careers advice, for others it may involve more in-depth support to help identify barriers to learning and find solutions brokering access to more specialist support, e.g. drug abuse, sexual health and homelessness. PAs work in a range of settings including schools, colleges, one-stop shops community centres and on an out-reach basis.
Connexions is delivered through a range of local partnership arrangements based either on Local Authority boundaries or Learning and Skills Council (LSC) boundaries. Funding is through a grant from the Secretary of State for Education and Skills.
The success of Connexions depends on the involvement of young people. Listening to and taking account of their views in the design and delivery of Connexions is essential.

Countryside Agency

The Countryside Agency promotes life, leisure and business in the countryside. It is the statutory body working:

• to conserve and enhance the countryside

Environment and Heritage Service Northern Ireland

Environment and Heritage Service is responsible for the implementation of environmental policy in Northern Ireland (as a part of the Department of the Environment Agency.)
