Youth Opportunities Fund

Details from Luke Eloi, YOF Co-ordinator:

For the 2011/12 period there is a total of £400.000 available for the Youth Opportunity Fund.  Due to the reduction in funding there is no Capital Fund.

Groups and organisations can apply for £5,000 to £35,000 for projects working with 13 to 19 (up to 25 with a disability).

"The Youth Opportunity Fund (YOF), money to spend on ‘things to do’ and activities, is from Central Government given to Bradford Council.

The main aims of the funds are to:

  • Give a voice and influence to young people, particularly those facing disadvantage, in relation to things to do and places to go and to convey a powerful message to young people that their needs and aspirations are important;
  • Change the way local authorities and their partners commission and provide activities for young people, especially in deprived neighborhoods, and to increase the responsiveness of providers to what young people want;
  • Improve things to do and places to go in line with what young people want in their neighborhoods and thereby increase participation in positive activities;
  • Provide opportunities for young people to develop their confidence, knowledge, skills and abilities to gain recognition and/or accreditation for them;
  • Increase the well being of young people by contributing to the achievement of the Every Child Matters (ECM) outcomes through engagement in activities that have a positive impact on their development;
  • Increase young people’s engagement with services and with the democratic processes at local level."

The deadline for applications is 9 December (4.30pm) - late applications will not be accepted.

Only groups and young people within the Bradford district may apply.
