"P4C will operate over the 2 year period from May 2012 to March 2014, with a total fund of £2m."

Community First grants panel opportunity, deadline 31 May

Community First grants panel opportunity, deadline 31 May
2 May 2012
One ward in Bradford district has not yet registered a Community First panel. Panels run a small grant scheme. The opportunity to run a grant scheme is in Thornton and Allerton ward.
Community Development Foundation (CDF) is running the Community First scheme nationally.
"To access funding, which is now available, Community First Panels must first be created and registered on-line with CDF by 31 May 2012. Registration is open and panels should register on the CDF website"
How to set up a decision making panel for Thornton and Allerton ward:

Read the documents on the Community Development Foundation website (end of the page, in the 'What Next' section)
Once you have formed your panel, you can register it online.
The link to the online registration form is contained within the guidance on setting up a panel

What will panels do?
Panels will:

Raise awareness of the programme.
Work in the community to create a plan for how they will match and spend the money.
Make recommendations to CDF, who as administrator of Community First, on behalf of OCS, will release funds provided the panel is able to demonstrate community involvement and support for the plan.

To be effective, panels need to be "genuinely representative of the community and credible in the aim of using the funds strategically."
Questions?
Please contact CommunityFirst@cdf.org.uk or telephone Community Development Foundation on 0207 833 1772 (press 3).
Please note: Groups cannot apply for small grants yet. This is an opportunity to run the grants scheme. There will only be one grants panel in Thornton and Allerton ward. The grants panel will distribute up to £33,910 in small grants over 4 years.

The panel has around £6,000 available to allocate in this round. Grants from £250 to £2,500 are available but the panel advises that £2,500 would be for "an exceptional project." Find out more
The scheme is community-led so if you would like to get involved in the panel or in other ways, please get in touch by email windhillwrosecommunitiesfirst@hotmail.co.uk.
How to apply
To apply for a grant please read the funding guidelines and download an application form.

Youth unemployment - projects that help 16-24 year olds get into work.
Improving health and particularly mental health - activities that help people maintain or regain good health, particularly mental health.

Successful projects will take place in the West Royd, Woodend, Windhill, Crag, Owlet & Bolton Woods part of the ward and benefit residents of that area.
"Projects which engage local people in an active capacity will be looked on favourably." The deadline for applications is 30 May.
Remember to check that your project is in Windhill & Wrose ward.
Match funding
Before applying to Community First, please ensure that you can demonstrate that you can match fund your project.
Groups must be able to match fund their project £1.00 for £1.00. This can be through volunteer time, in-kind room hire, donations, cash, goods and services or other in-kind donations, or through another funding source. The panel recommends that you calculate volunteer time at £11.09 per hour.

Community Learning Trust pilots, deadline 25 May (5pm)
23 April 2012
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is inviting community learning providers directly funded by the Skills Funding Agency from the £210m Community Learning (previously Adult Safeguarded Learning) budget to submit applications to become part of the community learning trust pilots in 2012/13. BIS expects to select between 10 and 15 pilots.
From the Prospectus:
"This process is NOT a competitive tender because providers are not bidding for extra financial resources from BIS / Skills Funding Agency. In 2012/13, all providers will receive the same funding allocation as in 2011/12 and should assume that there is no additional funding for pilot areas."
Frequently asked questions (FAQs) are available on the NIACE web site. If you have an enquiry about the Community Learning Trust Pilots that is not covered in the FAQs or prospectus, please email clt@niace.org.uk
From the FAQ:
"How can I find out who are the providers that receive funding through the £210m Community Learning budget in my area?
There is a list of providers on the Skills Funding Agency website who received a Skills Funding Agency allocation in 2011/12. Please visit http://skillsfundingagency.bis.gov.uk/providers/programmes/ and look at the paragraph on Allocations, where you can access the information.
Please note: The Community Learning budget was formerly called Adult Safeguarded Learning budget, so please refer to that column."

Date: 27 April 2012

Community First funding in Keighley West, deadline 20 May

Community First funding in Keighley West, deadline 20 May
Keighley West has a total of £67,820 available to distribute in small grants over 4 years.
The money is part of the Community First initiative, which brings people together to work out the priorities for their neighbourhoods and plan for the future.
Voluntary and community groups in Keighley West ward can apply for small grants of £250 to £2,500.
Projects need to 'match' 50/50 by giving voluntary time, expertise and in kind resources to go alongside the Community First cash.
The first deadline for applications is Sunday 20 May. Decisions will be made by a panel of people who live in the ward. Panel members can also help groups to develop their ideas further.
'The funding will be given out to groups working at grassroots level in the ward so that it can really make a difference,' says Cllr Jan Smithies, who is chairing the Keighley West Panel. 'And because the decisions are made by people from those neighbourhoods, we can be sure that the money will be spent where it will do most good.'
The funding priorities for Keighley West ward are:

Encouraging, supporting and sustaining community action
Activities for children and young people
Activities for older people
Improving the physical environment
Promoting positive health and wellbeing
Addressing anti-social behaviour

Visit the Community First Keighley West website to find out more or contact Liz Melling liz@kivca.org.uk 01535 665258.
Not sure which ward your group or project is in?
Use Bradford Council's find my ward postcode checker - you will need to check the full postcode (i.e. not just "BD2", for example).
The Community First programme will continue in Keighley West until March 2015.

Shipley Area Royal Diamond Jubilee fund, deadline 13 April

Shipley Area Royal Diamond Jubilee fund, deadline 13 April
29 March 2012
Grants of up to £250 are available from the Shipley Area Committee Royal Diamond Jubilee Fund.
Applications will only be considered from groups that work in, or benefit people who live in, the Shipley Constituency area. Groups can apply for funding to run community activities and projects that will help the community celebrate or mark the Royal Diamond Jubilee and which could not go ahead without financial assistance.
Did you know?
A large number of applications for funding fail because they don't include the additional information that the funder has specifically asked for. It can be really frustrating for the grant funder to see a project that they want to fund but not be able to do so because the group has forgotten to include the extra information they need to make a decision.
Remembering to include this information is a great way to improve your chances of success (and compared with completing the form it's easy too!)
What additional information do I need to send?
For this fund, it is essential that you provide the following information with your application:

"Your organisation's constitution/rules
Latest audited accounts or latest bank statement
A full balance sheet for the proposed event/project
Quotations from suppliers for all costs that need to be met from the Royal Diamond Jubilee Fund"

The deadline for applications is Friday 13 April 2012.
Questions?
Please contact Jackie Fawthrop at Shipley Area Coordinators Office on 01274 437146 or jackie.fawthrop@bradford.gov.uk

Changes to the WY Racial Justice Programme

Changes to the WY Racial Justice Programme
13 March 2012
Details from Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust:
"After a period of careful reflection, including listening to grantees, Trustees have decided to make significant changes to the shape of the West Yorkshire Racial Justice Programme.
The West Yorkshire Racial Justice Programme will include grants and grants-plus activities. Grantmaking will continue to be at the heart of the programme."
Themed grants
Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT) wants to fund organisations and projects that contribute to "a strong, cohesive and articulate movement for racial justice".
Grants will be made through two strands:

Promoting race equality
Addressing Islamophobia

Only one funding round will be open every three years for themed grants. Grants will be available for up to three years.
How much funding is available? There is no maximum amount that groups can apply for but please bear in mind that JRCT has said that, "funds are limited and in practice grants will be relatively modest. Typically we expect to offer about £30,000 per year, although some grants will be less and others a bit more." The overall amount available is "approximately £800,000 through this funding round".
The deadline for applications is Monday 16 April 2012 (12 noon).
Grants-plus
JRCT also wants to support successful applicants to develop their capacity to be effective. The grants-plus programme will enable organisations to learn collaboratively with other groups that have been awarded grants and work together for change.
JRCT encourages applications that aim to tackle racial injustices experienced by the most disadvantaged and excluded communities. These may include black and minority ethnic communities, asylum seekers and refugees, Travellers and Gypsies, women and young people.
Small grants
"JRCT will also be able to offer a limited number of small grants (£500 to £10,000) to help fledgling organisations and new ideas. Applications can be submitted for the published deadlines for all JRCT grants in the UK, and will be made within the Trust's usual grant rounds."
For further details and guidance that will help increase your chances of making a successful application, please read West Yorkshire Racial Justice Programme: Grants for Race Equality.

Time to Change grants, deadline 30 March (2pm)
24 February 2012
Time to Change grants will make awards to approximately 75 community projects across England between May 2012 and March 2015.
It will fund projects that tackle stigma and discrimination by bringing people with and without mental health problems together.
The funder is looking for projects that change attitudes and behaviour by engaging local communities in meaningful conversations about mental health. They particularly encourage applications from projects run in partnership by one or more organisations.
People with experience of mental health problems should be involved in the planning and development of the projects at all levels.
25% of the fund is for projects run by and for people from Black and Minority Ethnic communities, and 20% is for projects that work with young people.

Youth Contract initiative open for registrations of interest

Youth Contract initiative open for registrations of interest
Employers can now register their interest in the Government's Youth Contract initiative.
From April, a wage subsidy will be available for employers taking on young unemployed people and is designed to cover costs like National Insurance contributions.
The wage subsidy:

Will pay £2,275 to employers for every 18 - 24 year old unemployed person they employ from the Work Programme.
Is open to all businesses, voluntary organisations and charities.
Payments for the majority of business will be made after the young person has been employed for 26 weeks.
For smaller enterprises these payments will be staggered, with the first payment after 8 weeks and the rest after 26. This recognises that smaller businesses need a boost to their cashflow to make the jobs viable.

The wage incentive will also be available for part time positions, with a rate of £1,137.50 if someone is employed between 16 and 29 hours.
For further information, and to register your interest, visit the DWP website or call 0845 601 2001 (option 2) or textphone 0845 601 2002 for people with speech or hearing impairments.

Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust guidelines 2012

Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust guidelines 2012
26 January 2012
Thinking of applying to Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust for a small grant? Guidelines for 2012 have been published.
From the guidelines:
"Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust funds work that is wholly charitable and usually undertaken either by registered charities or by organisations that have been established for charitable purposes, are properly constituted and have a bank account. In general the trust favours initiatives that touch people's lives and clearly make a difference. As long as there is evidence that the organisation is continuing to deliver an effective service, the trust is happy to contribute to the general running costs of some organisations on a regular basis."
"Applications where there is a clear benefit to people in the Yorkshire area are more likely to be funded."
"Applications related to conditions or diseases that are particularly prevalent in the Bradford area are especially welcome."
"Grants are usually quite modest - a few thousand pounds at most."
"Applications that are health related (in a broad sense) are most likely to be funded. The trustees recognise that improving the health and well-being of people, especially disadvantaged people, is sometimes best undertaken through initiatives that tackle general social welfare needs as well."
"The majority of grants made are to local, district or regional (Yorkshire) activities, with a bias towards Bradford."

Big Lottery Fund update

Big Lottery Fund update
12 January 2012
How much money is available? The Big Lottery Fund share of Lottery sales was 50% then 46% in 2011 and will reduce further to 40% in 2012. 2011 was the best year ever for lottery sales so BIG has more funding to distribute. This amounts to £500 million across the UK next year (taking into account the increase in Lottery sales). An increase of £100 million.
Out of last year's budget of £400 million, £28 million went to projects in Yorkshire & the Humber.
Changes to help available from the Y&H team: BIG has been tasked with reducing the amount spent on administering grants - this includes help and advice to groups. More support and more applications will be done online. There will still be other ways to contact staff and BIG is trying to streamline processes that will help groups applying.
Grant making will still be the core business.
A discussion document on funding for infrastructure projects (organisations that support and advise local community groups) has been published and BIG would like to hear from your group. The deadline for responses is 15 March 2012.
Awards for All
The success rate at the moment is quite poor. 47% in October for Yorkshire and the Humber - 37 grants were made (it was 53% in August).
Groups are making the same common mistakes, including not providing all the necessary information and not describing outcomes (the difference that the project will make).
Reaching communities
The success rate is currently 22% for England. Applications for capital projects have declined over the last 4 months.
Outcomes not being clear/ adequately described is a common reject reason at outline proposal stage.
Applicants need to show clear evidence of need 'not random facts'.
Applicants also still need to provide detailed information, even if they are applying for a smaller amount of money. Assessors often struggle to understand what the group wants funding for and how it will benefit the local community. 'Don't rely on being able to explain the project in more detail verbally at interview'.
Some reduced offers are being made - projects need to provide a realistic budget.
Reaching communities is still encouraging groups to work in partnership. When similar projects apply in the same area at the same time, panels are asking at assessment stage 'why groups aren't working together?'

Lloyds TSB Foundation update

Lloyds TSB Foundation update
10 January 2012
**this fund is only open to registered charities.
The average grant for 2011 was £25,000 to £35,000. Demand has slowed in the last two to three months, especially from larger charities. Smaller charities often find it difficult to compete as they don't have recording and monitoring systems in place.
Lloyds TSB Foundation takes a monitoring and outcomes approach to funding - it calls this 'changes & benefits'. It wants to know what difference the project will make and how it relates to the Lloyds TSB Foundation mission statement.
Questions often asked at initial assessment interview:

How are your service users disadvantaged?
What are the specific issues for your service users?
What difference will your project make?

Groups need to have monitoring & evaluation systems in place and be using them before applying. Groups can decide what method best suits their group and activity - this could include (but is not limited to):

Outcomes star
Initial assessments and action plans
Interviews
Questionnaires

The foundation encourages groups to involve beneficiaries in monitoring. An annual customer survey is usually not enough - groups need to check their survey and see if they've asked what different the service made (as well as if the service user liked the service). For groups that need help with setting a monitoring or evaluation system Pat Greenwood usually directs them to the following websites:
Charities Evaluation Services
NCVO
Triangle consulting
Monitoring and evaluation trust
The foundation's budget for 2012 is the same as 2011, approximately £2 million - this equates to around 70 to 80 grants.
A question was asked about groups applying in partnership - can two charities apply together? Pat Greenwood explained that the foundation usually likes to fund just one registered charity at a time.

Sported

Sported
9 January 2012
Membership of Sported for groups in West Yorkshire is currently open. Membership entitles groups to access mentoring support, advice services and apply for Sported grants.
Membership is open to groups that provide opportunities for young people aged between 11 - 25 years to take part in sport and physical activity. The 'project must focus on using sport as a vehicle for development rather than participation.' This means that there should be a wider community benefit to the project. Membership is open to sports groups and groups that want to run a sports project i.e. they could be a residents association or a community centre wanting to run a sport or physical activity project.
Membership is free but eligibility criteria apply
Details of the benefits of joining are available from http://www.sported.org.uk/join-us/members
Information for Sported members thinking of applying for funding:
Sported would like to be a funder of last resort and encourages groups to look at other funders and then go to Sported if other funders are not suitable or if other bids have been unsuccessful.
Grants are assessed every quarter. Small grants of up to £2,000 are available. The main grants programme starts with a mentoring process and grants average £7 - £10,000. Sported can fund a broad range of projects through the main grants scheme, including equipment and salaries. Match funding is welcomed but not essential.
Remember, to be eligible to apply for a grant, you need to become a member of Sported first. Membership is free and open to more than just sports groups.

ESF Community Grants, deadline 17 February (5pm)

ESF Community Grants, deadline 17 February (5pm)
4 January 2012
"Grants of between £2,000 and £10,000 are available for small voluntary and community organisations in Yorkshire and The Humber to provide learning opportunities that help participants move closer to the labour market. A small organisation is classed as one with no more than 9 full time employees with an annual turnover of £300,000 or less; and not in direct receipt of ESF funding.
Funded activities must be aimed at unemployed individuals aged 18 years and over from the hardest to reach communities. Applications will be considered from any community that can evidence deprivation e.g.

Homelessness groups.
Deprived geographical areas
People with disabilities and health conditions
Lone parents
People aged 50 and over
People from ethnic minorities
Carers
Rural areas"

West Yorkshire deadlines for applications:
Friday 17 February 2012 5pm
Friday 22 June 2012 5pm
Friday 19 October 5pm
Find out more and download the application form and guidance notes
Thinking of applying? Here's an update from the funder, including common mistakes made by applicants:
There is a lot of competition for grants. The success rate for the last round was 25% but this includes applications that were 'sifted' (removed) before being assessed because they hadn't provided all the necessary information. Incomplete applications are not scored but groups can resubmit their application for the next round of funding with all the necessary information.
Before you apply:

Check your group's annual accounts for the last financial year - was the income over £300,000? If it was, your group can't apply.
Check how many people are employed by your group - is it more than 9 (full-time equivalent)? If it is, your group can't apply.
Volunteer-led groups with no paid staff can apply but remember this is European Funding so there are strict reporting requirements that can be time consuming. Your group will need to complete detailed records - are you prepared to do this?

Make the most of the time you spend on applying by making sure you:

Provide all the information needed - answer all questions and provide all supporting information requested.
Do not submit your application by email!
Describe your project and the benefits in detail
Demonstrate how the project will lead to progression for participants i.e. onto further training or distance travelled. Answers to this question were relatively weak in the last round of applications.
Provide a detailed budget
Use the right monitoring system - groups need to use RARPA, not other systems for example the outcomes star. Successful applicants will be able to attend workshops about RARPA.

The next round of funding for West Yorkshire has a budget of around £64,000. The average grant in the last round of funding (where 14 applications for West Yorkshire were funded) was £9,400. An average of 30 to 33 beneficiaries were supported per grant.

Reaching Communities Buildings fund, changes to criteria

Reaching Communities Buildings fund, changes to criteria
Update from the Big Lottery Fund Yorkshire & Humber team:
"Immediate changes to Reaching Communities Buildings
We have reviewed the buildings strand of our Reaching Communities programme and have made some small immediate changes to the eligibility criteria.
With immediate effect we have:
1. Introduced IMD 2010 data on top of IMD 2007 data
2. Increased the urban percentage from 15 per cent to 20 per cent
The eligibility checker has been updated to incorporate IMD 2010 data and now includes the following eligible areas:

The most deprived 20 per cent of LSOAs categorised as urban
The most deprived 20 per cent of LSOAs categorised as rural (town and fringe)
The most deprived 50 per cent of LSOAs categorised as rural (villages/hamlets/isolated dwellings)

We have also introduced a process which offers some more flexibility around the eligibility criteria. This means we may now make an exception for projects that are based near an eligible area and which primarily serve beneficiaries in that area.
Maps of eligible areas will be added shortly."
More information and Frequently Asked Questions about these changes can be found on the Big Lottery Fund website.

Bradford District Community Fund, deadline 27 January

Bradford District Community Fund, deadline 27 January
A new small grants programme has been announced for Bradford district - the Bradford District Community Fund.
The Bradford District Community Fund is a new initiative that provides a simple and effective way for individuals, families, organisations and companies in the Bradford District to show how much they care by making a donation to support the local community. The funds are then used to make grants to local citizen-led community projects that are helping to make a difference throughout the District.
The Children and Young People's Small Grants scheme is part of the new Bradford District Community Fund and administered by Leeds Community Foundation.
The fund is open for applications from Monday 12 December 2011. The deadline for applications is Friday 27 January 2012.
The fund is open to all groups in the District working with Children and Young People that fit the criteria set out on the flyer and website.
In total there is up to £15,000 to be distributed in small grants up to a maximum of £1,500 - to be spent during 2012.
From the fund criteria:

"We will accept applications from registered charities or community / voluntary sector groups with a set of rules or constitution and a separate bank account. Preference will be given to smaller, locally-based grassroots projects as opposed to larger charities.
The project or activity for which you are seeking funding must be directly benefiting children and young people who are living in the Bradford District from birth to the age of 18.
You can apply for a grant of between £250 and £1,500 to spend in between February-December 2012.
We will fund: capital items; contribution towards ongoing revenue projects; or one-off activities (as long as you can demonstrate that they will have a longer-term impact).
We will also accept applications from Parent Teacher Associations and 'Friends of' groups for school-based projects as long as this is not for mainstream curriculum-based work. Areas we will consider include: educational development of young people; school-based projects around healthy living; and educational attainment and inclusion projects."

"We will not accept applications where:

projects have already taken place / applications for retrospective funding.
activities would normally be funded from statutory sources e.g. Social Services, local or central Government, Local Education Authority, NHS.
projects that are primarily for the advancement of religion or politics."

The full details and online application form is available on the Leeds Community Foundation website

Managing Money Better, new Comic Relief fund opens 16 January

Managing Money Better, new Comic Relief fund opens 16 January
6 December 2011
New programme aimed at supporting older people (65+) to manage their money more effectively. Opens for applications 16 January 2012. Deadline for applications 13 February 2012.
Please note, the application form will be available on the Comic Relief website when the programme opens on 16 January 2012.
Details from Comic Relief:
"This programme will be aimed at supporting older people (65+) to build their knowledge and skills to manage their money more effectively, ensure access to good, independent financial advice, guard against financial scams and abuse and cope better with cold homes. We are especially interested in how older people can be supported to manage the extreme rising fuel and food prices. In addition, the programme aims to encourage partnerships with voluntary sector organisations and banks, building societies, credit unions, energy companies and others to recognise and respond better to the needs of older people.
Outcomes. The work will need to deliver one or more of the following outcomes for older people to:

Manage their money more effectively
Increase their income
Experience less fuel poverty
Deal better with financial distress (such as abuse, scams and so on)"

"Other important information. We know that the size and scale of the financial difficulties facing older people is enormous. Our guidelines are broad to enable different approaches, but it inevitably means we will receive many more applications than we can fund. So, in addition to meeting one or more of the outcomes listed above, we will be assessing the extent to which applications meet the following:

Older people have been involved in the design of the proposal and will be supporting their peers who are less active
there are strategic partnership approaches with voluntary, private and public organisations and local people of all ages to meet the needs of older people
new approaches are being tested and disseminated
the most isolated older people and those who are traditionally hard to reach or live in the poorest and most deprived areas are being targeted

"Projects that do not meet the criteria specified above will not be considered.
There is no overall maximum grant and we expect to make awards of varying sizes. This programme will not make grants under £10,000."
Our first grant making cycle for this programme will open on 16 January 2012. This is a two-stage application process. First stage application forms will be available on our website from 16 January onwards. The closing date for these is 13 February 2012. If your application is chosen for further consideration, you will be invited to submit a full proposal. You will then have until the end of March to submit this.
The second cycle for this programme will open on 10 April 2012."
If you would like to talk to Comic Relief about whether your work meets the funding criteria, please email ukgrants@comicrelief.com or call 020 7820 2000 and ask to speak to a member of staff from the Older People's programme.

BIG Advice Services Fund

BIG Advice Services Fund
28 November 2011
For free welfare benefits, debt, employment and housing advice services in England. Deadline 22 December (12 noon).
"The Government has made up to £16.8 million for a programme called the Advice Services Fund to support organisations in the free advice sector that have been affected by reductions in public spending. The programme aims to enable not-for-profit advice organisations to continue providing free services to people in their communities in England.
Grants of £40,000 - £70,000 are available and, to ensure this funding has the greatest impact, priority will be given to organisations that have experienced high levels of cuts and those that haven't received funding through the Transition Fund. Account will also be taken of how applicants plan to use their grants, their plans for the future, including ways to improve efficiency, and how the quality of their advice services helps meet local needs.
The Government has identified four categories of advice that the Advice Services Fund will support, as they have been advised by the sector that these are the areas of greatest demand for free advice services.
The Advice Services Fund categories are:

Advice on debt
Advice on welfare benefits
Advice on housing
Advice on employment

Organisations that do not currently provide advice in at least one of the categories are not eligible for the Advice Services Fund."

Details from Luke Eloi, YOF Co-ordinator:
For the 2011/12 period there is a total of £400.000 available for the Youth Opportunity Fund. Due to the reduction in funding there is no Capital Fund.

The main aims of the funds are to:

Give a voice and influence to young people, particularly those facing disadvantage, in relation to things to do and places to go and to convey a powerful message to young people that their needs and aspirations are important;

Near Neighbours Fund

Near Neighbours Fund
Updated 1 February 2012
Fund details:
The Near Neighbours Fund is a rolling programme with no deadlines but it will end in March 2013. Grants will be available for environmental, social, cultural, artistic and sporting projects that meet the funding criteria, this includes:
Creating association
Projects must do one of the following:

"Create First Encounters between people of different faith and ethnic communities and encourage the development of mutual understanding"
"Create Everyday Interactions at the everyday level of community life by encouraging families and individuals to come together regularly to eat together, jointly participating in religious and other festivals, encouraging children to play together in a neighbourhood."
"Create Civil Engagement which brings together people from different faith or ethnic communities to work together to change their neighbourhoods for the better."

Advice from the funder:
"This is not a fund for buying capital items, funding a deficit, or stretching a hard-pressed project revenue budget, nor will we fund full salaries, or work already completed. Innovative or tried and tested methods which bring people together in the categories set out above and which are 'good ideas' are much more likely to receive some investment. No match funding is required but if you can show additional resources such as volunteer time or extra funding being drawn in, so much the better."
Grants will range from £250 to £5,000.
Applications need to be made through an engagement with the local Church of England parish church. Clergy contact details for each parish will be available from September; in the meantime, groups can contact their nearest Presence and Engagement centre for this information.

Bradford Moor PASS Catalyst Challenge Awards Programme

Bradford Moor PASS Catalyst Challenge Awards Programme
UPDATED 24 November - the deadline for this fund has now been extended to Friday 2 December.
The Catalyst Challenge Awards are aimed at individuals or informal groups of people that have an idea which will change the Bradford Moor neighbourhood for the better, and want help getting it off the ground. Funding can help with the running costs of the project.
Grants of between £500 and £5,000 are available (the average award is likely to be around £2,500).
"PASS wants to support people who have the vision, drive, passion and commitment to develop their project and whilst doing it, will have the opportunity to increase their skills and vision."
The award can be used for the things you need to start or develop your project - this includes materials, equipment and/or renting rooms for meetings.
"The programme is aimed at projects that benefit the Bradford Moor/BD3 neighbourhood. This means that even if the individual does not live in BD3, they may still be eligible as long as the project takes place in BD3."
The deadline for applications has been extended to Friday 2 December.

Extra £50m of Lottery funding announced

Extra £50m of Lottery funding announced
News from the Big Lottery Fund:
"Today, BIG is announcing at least £50m of extra funding to support hundreds of vital Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) projects in England deal with the impact of funding cuts. The full impact on the VCS of cutbacks is still to come according to the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) which estimates that voluntary and community groups will face a reduction in public funding of over £900 million by 2016, losing a total of £2.8 billion in that period.
In response BIG has increased funding through the existing Reaching Communities and Awards for All programmes, making an extra 650 awards, and in the coming weeks will be offering grants of up to £10,000 to around 1,000 eligible BIG grant holders who have received more than 12 months funding from us and are in the last 18 months of their project.
These grants will allow projects to review the way they work and explore ways of becoming more sustainable. Projects coming to the end of their grant that are having a particularly significant impact will also be eligible to apply for an additional year's worth of funding to continue their project and carry out plans to make their projects more sustainable in the long term.
All eligible grant holders will be sent an e-mail about applying to the Supporting Change and Impact fund this week with details of how they can apply, so keep an eye on your inbox."

Communitybuilders loan fund reopens

Communitybuilders loan fund reopens
18 October 2011
Please note: at this stage only up to 6 "flagship" investments will be made in England.
The deadline for applications is 9 December (12 noon).
Details from http://www.communitybuildersfund.org.uk/apply/application-guidance/
Communitybuilders is looking for "up to six of the best, most promising examples of sustainable, community regeneration projects in England to be pioneer investees of the new era of the Communitybuilders Fund." Loan funding is available for independent and community-led organisations that are not controlled by the private or public sector
Key priority areas of interest
Communitybuilders is particularly interested in receiving applications from organisations that:

"are based in areas of high deprivation like the 20% most deprived areas in the Index of Multiple Deprivation
can demonstrate a high degree of un-met social need in their neighbourhood and have a specific plan in place to meet these needs. This might include areas that have suffered in the recent riots in 2011
already have or plan to raise financial community contributions as part of their overall funding requirements."

Do I need match funding? Yes. Communitybuilders is "aiming to grow the fund by making the highest standard of investments in partnership with a diverse range of quality co-funders. It wants to work with co-funders to support community anchors and is willing to fund between 20-50% of any individual project."
How much money is available? Communitybuilders expects to make "commitments worth in the region of £2.5m but the exact amount will depend on the quality of applications...and the specific requests of the organisations." Groups can apply for loans of £250,000 to £750,000.

Further funding will be available next year. Although the current funding opportunity is loan funding for well-established organisations, next year Communitybuilders will be offering feasibility grants to organisations looking to develop their enterprise plans.

Launch events
To launch the new funding programme, Youth Music is hosting five events across England in early November. One event will be streamed live via an interactive webcast. The events are aimed at anyone with an interest in funding for music education activities, specifically those working in Youth Music's priority areas: children in challenging circumstances, encouraging talent and potential and early years.
