Event management
The Keighley Voluntary Services resource library has an electric balloon pump, digital cameras, hearing loops, leaflet stands and holders, six-panel display boards, parachute game, gazebos, PA systems (large and portable), tea urns, laptop computers, digital projector, projection screen, digital camcorder and thermos flasks.
All these items are available on loan or hire at a reasonable daily rate - and the service is free to KVS members. A deposit is paid on all items, which is refunded when they are returned in good condition. Equipment can be booked in advance from Frances or Beryl on 01535 665258.
Bradford CVS also has the following equipment for hire: data projector, overhead projector, projector screen, slide projector, TV and video, display screens, flipchart stands and collecting boxes. See www.bradfordcvs.org.uk.

Royds Community Association has a mobile exhibition unit for hire, with hot and cold running water, sink, fridge, heating, tea and coffee making facilities, toilet, comfortable seating area, tables and chairs (if required), music and PA system (indoor and outdoor), television and video (if required), noticeboard and awning that makes another room or shelter. The Co-operative Society will often provide free Fairtrade refreshments. Ask at your local store for tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas etc.

Refurbishment
The Why Waste? Website is a free online waste exchange that can be used to find useful items and materials from businesses in Yorkshire and the Humber including building materials, wood and timber and furniture and fittings - see www.whywaste.org.uk.
Recycled paint is available from Bradford Community Repaint Project - www.communityrepaint.org.uk.
B & Q has a good reputation for providing in-kind support - ask in store for the shop manager or environmental champion.
Training
Free and subsidised training is available from a number of organisations in a variety of subject areas. A training digest is available on Bradford CVS website www.bradfordcvs.org.uk/training.htm, which advertises courses and includes details of free in-house tailored training for management committees.
Free training is often advertised at short notice (a month or less) - for example, if a funder has an underspend. E-mail is a good way of finding about about free training. Send your details to paul@bradfordcvs.org.uk to be added to the Bradford CVS list of e-mail contacts, or to frances.spencer@keighleyvs.org to be added to the Keighley VS list of email contacts.
B-Supported has a small fund to pay for training for voluntary and community groups with an income of less than £50,000 per year. If your annual is less than £50,000 you can apply for 100% of course fees. If your annual income is between £50,000 and £150,000 you can apply for up to 50% of the course fees. The fund can pay for training for staff, management committee members and volunteers. Any training is eligible that will improve the effectiveness, efficiency or sustainability of the group, with a focus on voluntary sector specific skills. The Voluntary Youth Organisations Network has a training fund that is available to volunteers or staff working in the voluntary youth sector for training that will benefit youth work. Funding is available to a maximum of £150 per person per course or £300 per individual for each financial year. Details on the Bradford CVS website (www.bradfordcvs.org.uk).
West Yorkshire Community Accounting Service offers free one-to-one training in financial planning, bookkeeping, internal financial procedures and controls and reporting to the committee to organisations with a turnover of less than £100k. Contact Dave Collins on 01422 835192.
Only Connect travel bursaries will pay £150 to enable you to visit another voluntary and community sector organisation to learn about how they have diversified income through trading, public service delivery or using loan finance. More details on www.ncvo-vol.org.uk.
The Consortia of Ethnic Minority Organisations has a purpose-built ICT Learning Zone with email, internet and printing facilities. Bradford Resource Centre can also help with photocopying, duplicating (cheap printing), laminating and binding - contact 01274 779003. It also has a resource library; hosts the bcounted community statistics project and can undertake or coordinate community research at competitive rates. Newlands Local Enterprise offers businesses, and especially social enterprises, voluntary and community groups, a range of administrative services. West Yorkshire Community Accounting Service prepares annual accounts and conducts independent examination of accounts at a modest charge for charities and unincorporated voluntary and community organisations with a turnover of less than £100k and charitable companies with a turnover of less than £90k. Sava-Comp is a not-for-profit organisation, which makes refurbished and recycled computer equipment available to charities and voluntary and community groups at low cost. Telephone 01535 662089 or 07807 311838 or email info@sava-comp.org.uk.
BT Community Connections provides internet-ready computers to a variety of voluntary groups, together with a contribution towards the cost of 12 months' internet access. Organisations must be able to demonstrate that they would use the internet in an innovative way - see www.btcommunityconnections.com.
The Microsoft Giving Programme makes a limited number of donations of up to three software products to charities and community groups each year, with a focus on projects that enhance access to technology for disadvantaged communities. Applicants should give a brief outline of their organisation and how the programme might assist it, together with the software titles required and registered charity number where applicable. Community Website Builder allows registered charities, non-profit-making organisations and volunteer-led groups and organisations to build and maintain their own websites free of charge. See www.communitykit.co.uk.
CommuniGate (Newsquest Digital Media) includes community web pages. Non-profit making community organisations and groups are invited to build their own free websites including information relating to their activities and become part of their local on-line community. Contributions.org.uk offers charities and non-profit-making organisations discounted web hosting, web design and content management. Web space costs £60 per year for 500mb, which is a 50% discount for charities.

Be Involved encourages Bradford businesses to volunteer, share skills and expertise and provide resources to the voluntary sector. This includes giving pro bono professional support, mentoring, donation of equipment, facilities or waste, sponsorship of events or activities, board membership and team challenges in the community. ProHelp is a network of 1,000 professional firms that have offered to provide advice and strategic support to community and voluntary groups and organisations in the area. In Kind Direct (www.inkinddirect.org) redistributes goods donated by manufacturers to voluntary organisations at low cost. These include toiletries, cleaning supplies, household appliances, toys and educational items, office supplies, tools and computer supplies, which can be selected from an online catalogue.
