No. 5 – Use spell check

  • Do you ever notice spelling errors in other group’s publicity?
  • Does it bother you?
  • What impression does it give of that person or the group?
  • What if you were a vulnerable service user?
  • What if you were a funder?
  • Do you know how to use spell check in all the programmes you use for communication?

Taking action

Word – go to the Review tab then choose Spelling and Grammar (or press F7 on the keyboard).

PowerPoint – go to the Review tab then choose Spelling (or press F7 on the keyboard).

Outlook - you can set up your emails to check spelling automatically before they’re sent. Go to File then Options, and choose Mail. Check the box next to “Always check spelling before sending”. Click OK.

*Slowly reading your publicity out loud can help you spot errors that spell check doesn’t pick up.
