Village Halls Improvement Grant Fund

The Village Halls Improvement grant fund is a new scheme that will fund up to 20% of the costs of major repairs to halls in towns/ villages of under 10,000 population.

The fund's aim is to update and refurbish village halls so that they are fit for purpose to provide activities that achieve one or more of the following outcomes:

  • Improved health and wellbeing/ reduction in loneliness.
  • Positive impact on the environment.
  • Supports the local rural economy.

Funding is not available for routine maintenance, car parks or landscaping. Grants cannot be used for new builds or purchase of land or buildings.

Grants of £10,000 to £75,000 are available. The scheme will fund up to 20% of eligible costs so this means overall costs of eligible projects will be £50,000 to £375,000.

Can my group apply?

Registered charities including charitable trusts and charitable incorporated organisations can apply. Multi-purpose church halls and scout and guide buildings are also eligible where they are open for the whole community and there is no alternative village hall.

However, if your charity is VAT registered, it cannot apply to this fund.

The following groups are NOT able to apply:

  • Community interest companies or other companies where there is no charity registration in place.
  • Sports pavilions with amateur sports club status.
  • School halls.
  • Parish and town councils.

There is a two-stage application process.

Second-stage applications must be submitted before 31 March 2020 or until it is announced that the fund is fully committed.

This is likely to be a very popular fund so consider applying as early as possible.
